What Did You Do Today?
Some days I look around the house after the kids go to bed and wonder if anything got done today. As I look at the toy strewn floor, the sink full of dishes and the fingerprint covered walls and windows, I know. We defeated the Polar Bear clan that was invading our house, we squished all of the spiders in the house, and scared all of the monsters back outside. No, they may not know their ABC's any better today than yesterday, they may not have been fed all organic meals or learned to play a new instrument. My to-do list is just as long as yesterday, my craft projects remain incomplete and the laundry still waiting to be folded. I may get looks when Kaelyn is still in her pajamas while we drop William off at school, or when William's clothes clash like on What Not To Wear but we were busy spending our mornings saving ducks and blowing bubbles. They may not be the smartest or most talented, but they will have some of the best memories growing up. Trying to touch the clouds as they swing, or hearing their voices echo throughout our stairwell. I don't want my kids to look back at their childhood and think about how busy we all were going from one activity to another. No, they will remember all of the learning we did while playing. William will be a pro at paper airplanes, Kaelyn will be able to swing higher and spin fast than all of her friends. They will look back at their childhood and say "I want my kids to have one just like that".
